HLGU end busy week with road loss

LAMONI, Iowa – The HLGU Women’s Basketball team traveled to Graceland University for their third game of the week and their third matchup of the season. Both teams battled the full 40 minutes, but the Yellowjackets came out on top, 77-61.


The road loss drops HLGU to 1-2 on the season.




Makayla Hostettler (FR/Weaubleau, MO) led the Trojans in scoring with 13 points. Hostettler also recorded 4 steals.

Sophie Schooley (SO/Lee’s Summit, MO) added 9 points of her own and led the Trojans on the boards with 7.

Madisen Simpson (SR/Louisburg, KS) and Jillian Lockard (SO/Eolia, MO) both added 8 points apiece.



The score after one quarter of play was 20-16 in favor of Graceland. The second quarter was nearly the same in scoring with the Yellowjackets outscoring the Trojans by five. At halftime, the Trojans were down by nine.


Graceland took control in the third quarter, holding HLGU to seven points.


At the end of the third quarter, Graceland had built a 23-point lead. In the fourth quarter, however, HLGU went on to outscore their opponent 22-14.


Graceland outshot HLGU from the field 43.8%-31.6% while the Trojans had seven more opportunities at the free-throw line than their opponent.


The Yellowjackets led in rebounds and assists. The Trojans led in points off turnovers and steals.



The Lady Trojans’ next matchup on the current schedule will be on December 7 at home against Missouri Valley College at 5:30 PM.



“We had a bad third quarter.  Their pressure took us out of our flow for a while and then we finally got our composure.”
