Lady Trojans win home opener on the court

HANNIBAL – The Hannibal-LaGrange University Women’s Basketball team hosted Central Christian College of the Bible in its home opener of the season Friday night. The Lady Trojans worked their way to a victory, 60-38.


With the win, HLGU improves to 1-1 on the season.




Jillian Lockard (SO/Eolia, MO) led the Trojans in scoring with 15 points.


Sophie Schooley (SO/Lee’s Summit, MO) went 4-6 from the field and 4-4 from the free-throw line to add 13 points of her own.


Madisen Simpson (SR/Louisburg, KS) and Jenna Syers (JR/New Braunfels, TX) both dished out three assists.


Emma Anderson (SR/Ashland, MO) led in rebounds with seven.




The Trojans went on a 12-0 run to start the game, starting with a three from Madisen Simpson on the first offensive possession. Four different Trojans scored in the first three minutes of the game.


In the first quarter, HLGU shot 50% from the field, outscoring CCCB 20-7.


At halftime HLGU’s lead had been cut to 11. With four minutes left to play in the third quarter the Trojans’ lead was back up to 20.


CCCB outshot HLGU from the three, but the Trojans recorded a higher field goal percentage 40%-22.2%.


CCCB recorded 19 points off of Trojan turnovers but HLGU won the boards with 37 rebounds compared to 29.




The Lady Trojans will have a quick turnaround as they travel to Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa on Saturday, November 13.




“In the second half we came out with a lot more intensity and I was very pleased with our effort.”
